BYRD CHARLIE Vinyl Records and CDs. Charlie Byrd played jazz guitar with Django Reinhardt during his World War II army stint in France prior to studying classical music with Andres Segovia. He then applied these classical techniques to jazz for a uniquely academic approach to the instrument. In , he toured Brazil, turning Stan Getz on to.

Charlie Lee Byrd (September 16, – December 2, ) was a famous and versatile American guitarist born in Suffolk, Virginia. His earliest and strongest musical influence was Django Reinhardt, the famous gypsy guitarist. Byrd became the American guitarist who best understood and played Brazilian music, especially the Bossa Nova genre.

Charlie Byrd has been my favorite jazz guitarist since the Jazz Samba album with Stan Getz first came out. This CD (Guitar Artistry) contains songs that were recorded BG (Before Getz) and includes some all-time favorites, especially Taking a Chance on Love, Rising Sun Blues, and Ring Dem Harmonics/5(25).
